A great deal of research reveals a parabolic dependency between the level of the person's daily activity and the rate of disease.

Both low activity (hypodynamia) and overly high activity (hyperkinesia) increase the risk of disease.

 The lack of activity causes cardiovascular, nervous, gastrointestinal and other diseases, as well as muscular, bone and cartilaginous changes. Hypodynamia leads to irritability and anxiety, decreases attention and the ability to perform counting operations, etc.

As the result of six-week rest in bed, well-trained athletic student volunteers experienced (R.Headman, 1980):

  • loss of muscle bulk;

  • reduction of calcium content in bones;

  • reduction of blood volume;

  • weakening of myocardium force;

  • weakening of memory, slower reaction-times, inertia, apathy.

Hyperactive life-style (hyperkinesia), such as heavy athletic exertion, causes apparent stress which, in the case of serious over-exertion, leads to emaciation. The most frequent cause of this is the intention to get a desired effect from training sessions as soon as possible by significantly increasing physical exertion. Together with the stress of a modern life-style and psychological and emotional overloads, such haste will only make things worse. Special attention should be paid to the impact exertion has on the growing body of a child.

It is necessary to understand that hyperkinesia can occur not only during exercising or sports practice but in all cases when physical exertion exceeds the resources of the body.

Those who practice sport intensively pay a high price for the adaptation to heavy loads. Hyperkinesia wears out all organs and systems of the body (Figure), leads to diseases and an untimely and sudden death.

Thus, practical experience and research how that both insufficient and excessive physical exercises make a negative impact on the body. This is why it is necessary to search for an optimal level of physical exertion with the most favorable impact.

To select the best level of physical exertion, we need to know what shape the body is in. The only available comprehensive system for assessing physical fitness is ORTO Expert.
